Sri Lanka – fish and tea

Sunday, 16th March – Tuesday, 18th March
We are now in Kandy having travelled here by bus from Negombo where we spent our first two nights in Sri Lanka. Negombo is a fishing town near to the airport, with not that much to do but convenient for a first stop. Here are a couple of pics, check out the photo gallery for some more pics of Negombo.

The bus to Kandy was as expected, lots of honking, overtaking on blind corners and steep climbs (Kandy is 500m above sea level). The 120km journey took around 4 hours.

First impressions of Kandy are good. We’re up in the hills so a lot cooler than our first couple of days and we’ve swapped the beaches and fish of Negombo for the green hills and tea of Kandy. Our guest house (Hanthana Holiday Rooms) is about 9km from the town up a steep and winding road. It’s good to be sleeping away from the horns and traffic of a town for a couple of days. This afternoon we went for a wander in Kandy and checked out some stuff to do for our time here.

We have a couple of days here, and will most likely do a tour by tuk tuk tomorrow with all the sights including the temple housing a tooth of the Buddha and a tea museum. Then follow that up with some relaxing and drinking tea on our balcony with a view (below).
