We flew to St. Louis and reminded ourselves why we haven’t done much flying on this trip. Everything went pretty much to plan but as always with flying you spend so much time waiting around that you lose pretty much a whole day no matter how short the flight. We did meet a lovely couple from […]

Here are some videos of our time in Yellowstone National Park; some of the driving, wildlife and natural wonders of this park. This was our last hope of seeing a bear and we were not disappointed as you can see. It seems as though this is the National Park to go to for wildlife watching […]

Kirsty had researched a whole manner of places to explore in Denver for my birthday. We started out at the ‘Butcher’s Block Cafe’ for a traditional blue collar American breakfast. Kirsty had the Denver omelette and I had pancakes, bacon and eggs teamed with a cup of black coffee. A delicious way to start the […]

Our stay in Thermopolis being brief we packed up and left early to make for Denver. The drive took us back through the Wind River Canyon, one of the most scenic drives we have done so far. Along the way there are roadside signs pointing to the rock next to the road giving you the […]

Today we made for Thermopolis and our motel for the night before we got nearer to Denver. To get there we drove through Yellowstone National Park although this time the only wildlife we saw was Bison on the way. Yellowstone leads directly into Grand Teton National Park via the South entrance so we had a lovely […]

We landed into Salt Lake City airport after a small delay in taking off from Las Vegas which also included around 5 queues to actually get to the gates before take-off. Getting a shuttle to our rental car office, Fox, we had another day as with a staff of 10 on duty only 1 could […]

Not used to having a king size bed and a luxurious hotel room, we slept in for our first morning in Las Vegas and only got going around lunchtime. Vegas is more of a night-time place anyhow so we felt fully justified in doing so, not to mention paying for a hotel room we wanted […]

This is a short video of the route we took from Yosemite Valley to June Lake, driving over the Tioga pass. The video ends at a lookout called Olmsted Point where you can see Half Dome in the distance. The highest point of the pass reaches 9,943 feet.

Day 1 Today we left San Francisco for the wilds of the Yosemite National Park. Our accommodation was booked at June Lake, beyond Yosemite and nearer to Inyo National Park but the drive there allowed us to explore Yosemite Valley and the Tioga Pass. Along the way we stopped to help a stranded family in […]

Our first full day in San Francisco began early as I battled the rush hour traffic to return the rental car by 9am. Once this was done I took a leisurely stroll back up Market Street to our home for the next five days, Noe Street, near to the Castro and Mission districts. Chris (aka Drakey), […]

Day 1: Portland to Florence We left Portland just after lunchtime after breakfast cooked by our AirBnB hosts and running a few errands in the city. We headed East making for the coast and the scenic Highway 101. This drive runs alongside the Pacific Coast running through towns along the way. The traffic was slow […]

We booked ourselves on the Amtrak Cascades train line down to Portland. The experience of travelling by train in America is not dissimilar to that of flying minus the waiting around and frenzied atmosphere. We got the King Street Station 1 hour before departure, checked in our luggage then took a sit whilst we waited […]

Here is some footage from the game 6 of the play-offs which Portland won to get into the semi-final play-offs. It was an awesome with the crowd going wild at every point scored and the finish just topped it off. An after the buzzer 3-pointer sealed the win by one point. They had 0.9 seconds on […]
